Baseboards, Toe Kicks, Wallpaper & Insulation
Where is the Water Hiding?
The second a water loss occurs, the water begins to travel. It wicks up drywall, and settles in places dark and hard to reach or see.
It can often be misleading when testing a surface for moisture. For example, if you have baseboards on your drywall, toe kicks on your cabinets or wallpaper on your drywalls, there is a good chance that water has snuck behind and is just laying in wait to turn into mold.
Also, exterior walls on a building/structure are typically filled with insulation. Once that insulation is wet, it is near impossible to dry and can create an environment perfect for mold growth.
In this picture, water had been left to sit behind the baseboards, thus creating a visible mold behind it.
